Craftsteak, Tom Colicchio's addition to the NoMeat chopping block, officially opens tomorrow night (meaning, yes, the buzztrain is running waaay behind schedule). Time to get ready. Firstly, a report from a tipster who was at the employee opening party:
The bar and cocktail lounge have floor to ceiling windows looking out on 10th ave and the park below 15th Street. Behind the bar is a wine cellar with back lighting that can hold your attention for hours. The raw bar is opposite the bar, right behind the receptionist lest you forget that there is anything but the spectacular selection of meats on the menu. Tom spent a good amount of time back there personally sampling it’s wares during my dinner, making me wish I had tried the oysters. I can vouch for the lobster and the jumbo shrimp cocktail! We also have the menu for your pre-arrival perusal. Of the dailies, Thrillist seems to be the first of the gate, providing a surprisingly good primer on the joint. The main dining room has lush carpeting and circular banquettes in off white. It’s warmly lit- despite my poor picture. My favorite room is the private dining area, reminiscent of an airplane hanger with lights strung overhead. However, the cocktail lounge is my new favorite spot to sit and watch Chelsea go by, listen to jazz, drink martinis. Also, word has it that a hamburger will grace the lunch menu.
Of course, the resy line remains 212-400-6699.
