BruniBetting: August

Tomorrow, Frankie Food does that thing he does to August. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:

Zero Stars: 4-1
One Star: 2-1
Two Stars: 10-1
Three Stars: 1000-1
Four Stars: 10,000-1
This review will prove interesting, because in the two years it's been open, August has evolved its menu quite a bit. So much so that the restaurant today bears no resemblance to the restaurant that $25 and Under reviewed in April of '04 or the place Hal Rubenstein visited in October '04. Further, the menu itself has virtually no overlap with what Menupages has on file and it just similar to what is posted on August's website. What was once a rustic Italian is now a rustic sort of Eastern European.

So, the field is pretty wide open for Mr. Bruni to shape the dialogue on the restaurant's latest incarnation. Having ourselves paid a visit recently for the sake of check-up, two-stars, though not impossible, would be a major coup. Much more likely is a zero/good or one-star review for the West Village Something or Other. Because we like to keep things upbeat, we’re going to say the smart money is on one star.
