Undertaking a little original reporting, we passed the open front door of the under-construction and very much plywooded Chinatown Brasserie, soon to be taking over the old Time Cafe space on the corner of Lafayette and Great Jones. It's owned by the guys behind Mercbar, Lever House, and (with condolences) Lure Fishbar, and according to the shiny but thoroughly unhelpful website, is opening Winter 2005/06. Which we'd estimate at being right about now. Anyone know more than our dodgy cameraphone could tell us?
