BruniBetting: Tocqueville/Tasting Room

Tomorrow, The Bruni Special issues another twofer, this time on Tocqueville and Tasting Room, two restaurants that have recently upgraded to become larger and more ambitious. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:

Tocqueville
Zero Stars: 4-1
One Star: 2-1
Two Stars: 4-1
Three Stars: 2500-1
Four Stars: 15,000-1

Tasting Room
Zero Stars: 4-1
One Star: 2-1
Two Stars: 5-1
Three Stars: 50-1
Four Stars: 15,000-1

Both Tocqueville and Tasting Room are re-reviews. Grimes two-starred the former in 2000 and one-starred the latter in 2001. Both venues have changed drastically since their last reviews--and, post re-open, have been met with very mixed reviews. Neither upgrade has been a complete success or a complete disaster, though individual opinions are much less middling than the aggregate, of course. So, let's get to it: given the relative ease with which a venue can hold onto one star, and the space/kitchen capabilities upgrade, we're going to bet on one star for Tasting Room. On Tocqueville, despite Bruni's visits having come long after George Mendes' departure (ie. the change-over per se was likely not a factor), sadly, we're betting on a downgrade to one star there, based on a new venue that overreaches in the wrong directions.
