Tomorrow, Prime-time Frank Bruni releases his report on Cafe Cluny. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:
Zero Stars: 3-1For the first time in recent memory, Mr. Bruni has an opportunity to drop a real doozy. The smart money will bet on one star for solid and respectable food, and a nice West Village setting. But, this is Bruni we're talking about, which puts two stars in play. Recall that The Orchard and Little Owl both received two stars, somewhat legendarily so. Both of these venues fit the very small, very good mold--traditionally the stuff of one star, but often two for our man. The menu at Cluny is less ambitious than at either Owl or Orchard, but the if the highs are as high here, we're looking at two stars. Indeed, while you should feel free to take the one star action -- even the zero star action based on awful service -- Eater is rolling the dice this week on two. Big money, big money. No whammies.
One Star: 2-1
Two Stars: 4-1
Three Stars: 400-1
Four Stars: 15,000-1
