Park Chinois Update: Ian Reaches Out

The buzz burning up the newspapers this morning concerns last week's Eater exclusive about the possible-non-opening of the Gramercy Park Hotel's Park Chinois restaurant. (Alert readers will recall the secret floorplans for the space, above, revealed back in September.) Today's news indicates that the delay is due in part to Park Chinois' Alan Yau encountering visa difficulties importing chefs from China. Oooookay.

Meantime, Eater has talked to at least one top-flight NYC restaurateur who has been contacted by Schrager & Co. about taking over the space. With the interior work nearing completion, it's an open question how long Ian can tolerate the wait. Let's set the over/under for that drastic decision at January 15, 2007.
