The Gatekeepers: Iris Espinosa

Today marks the start of The Gatekeepers, a photo series we've commissioned from Michael Harlan Turkell. For the next several weeks, we'll be presenting portraits of the Gatekeepers: the very folks that stand between you and some of your favorite impossible-to-get tables.

At Mary's Fish Camp (90 minute wait at 8 PM), it is Iris Espinosa who womans the door on most nights. What to say: "Be nice, patience goes a long way." What not to say/do: "People attempt to slip me money; some drop the "what if I tell you that I'm friends with ..." line. Neither works. I'll take you off the list if the drop the f-bomb, especially if you tell me to go to hell, too."
