Dish: Maroons Smoke Shack, Kelley and Ping, and the Land Beyond Manhattan

Back after a special one-week hiatus, here it is, the Eater Dish for September 20, 2005, tracking fall restaurant openings as though our lives depended on it...

1) In the still-warm Citron space just a stone's throw from Bar Pitti, Maroons Smoke Shack has opened. Strong has the word on this partnership between Gavin Citron and Chelsea's (and, soon Harlem's) Maroons. We cruised by last night and can report that the awning is, appropriately, of the maroon color family.

2) New York magazine hits the outer boroughs for its weekly opening wrap; there's Asian fusion cuisine to be had in Sunnyside and a veteran Brooklyn chef (and Bouley vet) opening a "Pan-Mediterranean taverna and raw bar" in Fort Greene. Paging Sietsema!

3) Skedded to open early next week, noodle shop Kelley and Ping brings its wares to 325 Bowery (at Second St.), its third location. Press materials relate that they're doing up a "loft-style event space with large windows, exposed brick and a seductive fireplace." Tastings this week, if you've got your press pass handy.
