Our friends at Curbed run a weekly feature called Rumblings & Bumblings, which uses the collective wisdom of NYC citizens to answer questions about demolitions and developments around town. At Eater, we're inaugurating a similar feature: The Plywood Report.
Here's how it works. If there's something restaurant-like opening in your neighborhood, drop us an email. If you're feeling bold, snap a cameraphone picture and send it along, too. We'll gather the reports here. Then, if you know more about what's going on or going in, let us know that, too.
Our first Plywood Report comes from an Eater reader, who emails: "I work on 26th between 6th & Broadway, and there is a huge space that was for rent (at least 10,000 sq. ft) that now has a sign in the window saying: Leased, New Restaurant Coming Soon. Any idea? Please tell me it is not another Olive Garden, or the real site of Rocco D's next disaster."
And, on the answer front, Cityrag snaps some photos (above) of a new dining establishment under construction on upper Allen Street on the Lower East Side, just steps from hotelier Jason Pomeranc's forthcoming boutique hotel extravaganza. Reports Cityrag, "When we stopped by to take photos, the construction supervisor said a new pizza place is going in. it was an informal conversation but he mentioned the name will be La Sala. and from the looks of the serious construction going on, gutting deep into the walls and at least one story below ground, it's going to be a big place."
