The Mermaid Inn, the East Village seafood haven from the fine folks behind The Red Cat, The Harrison, and new-ish Tribeca Italian Pace, has never disappointed us. But that doesn't mean it hasn't disappointed other people. A Chowhound poster reports:
Got there early, enjoyed a drink and a perusal of the crowd (and cute bartender)... When my boyfriend arrived, we sat down in the spacious and comfortable back garden. He had a shrimp cocktail and I had a half dozen oysters. The oysters were ice-cold, something I never experienced before and which really detracted from the taste (i.e. -- there was none!). Seems odd because they were seemingly stored on ice at the bar -- unless my particular batch came from the fridge or freezer!Chilling.
