It's a ripe season for restaurant anniversaries in New York City: Odeon famously turned 25 earlier this month; Union Square Café celebrates its 20th this weekend; and Nolita pizza classic Lombardi's gears up to turn 100 (complete with throwback 5-cent slices on November 10). Trailblazers, all.
Another trailblazer celebrates its 20 this weekend: Meatpacking District stalwart Florent. In its honor, Friends of the High Line is hosting a special dinner this Saturday night at The Roxy, to be followed by some sort of late-night fun.
In tribute to Florent and its owner, Florent Mallet, blogger Andy Towle pens a tribute in words and images to the restaurant and its neighborhood. Rather than quote from it, we urge you to click through and read it. Web writing simply doesn't get much better than this.
