1) East Village: Brendan McHale, formerly of Jack's Luxury Oyster Bar, opened The Eddy yesterday in the space that once held Toucan & The Lion. The menu includes bar snacks like bacon tater tots and "ramp buttered toast," plus entrees like pastrami beef tongue with kale kraut, and tea-cured chicken with polenta and walnut puree. 2) Tribeca: Daruma-Ya, the soba-focused revamp of Greenwich Grill, opened last week. It serves fresh noodle dishes that range from cold soba with uni to hot soba with duck breast. The menu also includes sashimi and dishes like grilled lobster tail with uni mayo and braised pork with spring onion and Japanese mustard. A tasting set is also available for $115 for two people. 3) Noho: Brazilia Cafe, a huge all day restaurant and marketplace is now open. It includes a juice bar, a coffee bar, a salad bar, a soup and sandwich station, a gelateria, and a bakery, plus a full-service dining room serving tapas in the back. Breakfast ranges from pastries to empanadas to smoked fish platters, while salads and sandwiches are classics with a few Brazilian twists. The tapas menu is a small selection of meats, cheese, nuts, and olives. Status: Certified Open. 684 Broadway, 212-858-0732.

4) Upper West Side: Korean wing spot Koko Wings opened a few weeks ago. Besides fried Korean chicken wings, the menu includes sweet potato fries, mandu dumplings, bulgogi burritos, and pa-jeon, a seafood scallion pancake. It's a small place, and according to West Side Rag is doing steady takeout business. Status: Certified Open. 248 W 106th St., 212-932-7722.

5) Astoria: A new Vietnamese restaurant/internet cafe has opened in Astoria. The tiny Saigon Cafe serves standards like pho and banh mi, plus a few outliers like a bacon egg and cheese bagel. According to various Yelp reviews, it's equipped with two iPads with wifi for internet browsing, and a big TV. Status: Certified Open. 25-90 41st St., 347-617-1207.
6) Midtown: An "Italian brasserie" called Villagio on the Park has opened in the space that once held Mickey Mantle's Restaurant & Bar. It's outfitted with an open kitchen and a wood-fired pizza oven, and serves a menu of pastas, pizzas, and some gluten free options. The massive space was designed by Jeffrey Beers International, and has outdoor seating right on Central Park. The restaurant also has several outposts in Florida and Chicago. 7) Bushwick: A grilled cheese spot called The Wheelhouse opened on Wilson Avenue last week. It serves grilled cheeses with fillings that range from kimchi to short rib, and is open until 10:30 p.m. Status: Certified Open. 165 Wilson Avenue.
8) East Village: Late-night cookie delivery specialist Insomnia Cookies just opened a new outpost on 11th Street. Like the other branches, this shop serves fresh, warm cookies in many different flavors, plus brownies, ice cream, and ice cream sandwiches, and promises to deliver all of those things until 3 a.m. Status: Certified Open. 299 E. 11th St., 877-63-COOKIE.
