The unstoppable Michael Bao tells Eater that he has closed his East Village barbecue restaurant, BaoBQ, because of issues with the building. The Baoster says that the space had bad plumbing problems (see the picture at right), and an upstairs tenant complained about the smoke coming from the restaurant. He also notes that "rent is too expensive, anyway."
If you want Bao's barbecue, you'll have to head to the other location on MacDougal Street. Mikey B also hints that he's planning another West Village restaurant, which he says will be a "nice place." Lose a Bao restaurant, gain a Bao restaurant. That's how it works.
