Welcome to Front & Center, a series highlighting front of the house professionals in New York City restaurants. Right now: Snacky Tunes host and playwright Darin Bresnitz on Maison Premiere's Maxwell Britten.
Having Maison Premiere as my local is both a blessing and a curse — the former because it is the best bar to go in the city for oysters and innovative imbibing at 3 a.m., and the latter because time seems to stop upon entering its doors, regardless of existing responsibilities. Many of my outings there take place at Williamsburg's most beautiful horseshoe-shaped bar, sitting across from Maxwell Britten.
Dapperly dressed, Maxwell wields whiskeys, absinthes, and other spirits to satiate the droves of sophisticated sippers. To see him shake, stir, and syphon cocktails is one of the best shows the city has to offer. Come ready with an order, or just let him know how you are feeling, and he will whip up the perfect drink, and then pair it with the perfect brackish bite. Go late, go early, go alone, or go with a date, but make sure you go when Maxell is tending bar.
