If Brooklyn's Community Board 1 has its way, there will be no more al fresco brunching in Williamsburg or Greenpoint on Sunday mornings. The Brooklyn Paper learns that members of the CB1 want the city to enforce an obscure rule that states that restaurants cannot have outdoor dining areas on the lord's day. The public safety chairman notes: "This would keep the sidewalks open for Sunday morning walks to church...Lokal, Enid’s, and Five Leaves consistently open their sidewalk cafe hours before noon on Sundays.”
Recently, the group forced weekend favorite Five Leaves to remove their outdoor benches, where noisy hipsters congregated during peak brunching hours. The CB1 chairman remarks, "Do they need a threat to be good neighbors?...Take reservations so there aren’t hordes standing around not moving out of the way!”
