Back in August, when Upper West Side standby Josephina closed, rumor had it that boisterous East Village restaurant The Smith would take the space. And Flo Fab confirms today that the rumors were right on. The Smith, currently on an expansion tear with a two month-old behemoth in Midtown, will open up in the old Josephina's/Sushi A-Go-Go space at 1900 Broadway next summer. It will be about the same size (i.e., very large) as its Midtown sister and will serve breakfast lunch and dinner.
Flo Fab also reports that P.J, Calapa, formerly the sous chef at Michael White's Ai Fiori has been promoted to chef de cuisine to fill the shoes of Chris Jaeckle. And chef Matt Hamilton has left East Village restaurant Belcourt to open a new 30-seat restaurant called Lulu & Po in Fort Greene.
