The Upper East Side location of the 2nd Avenue Deli, which has been anticipated for over two and a half years, will open on 75th Street and 1st Avenue on August 16 with a traditional and ceremonial cutting of "Nickel Shtickel" (salami links). Co-owner Josh Lebewohl says in a press release, "Whether we’re at 33rd and Third or 75th and First, it’s always 2nd Ave." The iconic deli's actual and original 2nd Avenue location shuttered back in 2006 after 50 years in business and is now a Chase Bank.
The 70 seat Upper East Side locations will serve the same menu of chopped liver, sour pickles, gribenes, and pastrami as its Murray Hill sister.
