Good news for fans of overcrowded, old-timey taverns that serve burgers: the Corner Bistro is expanding to Long Island City, Queens. Neighborhood blog Liqcity noticed that a restaurant under that name was applying for a liquor license in the old Cassino space on Vernon Jackson Boulevard, and Grub Street confirms that it is in fact a new branch of the West Village classic. Management says that they hope to be open within "three to four months."
It will be interesting to see how the Corner Bistro does in this neighborhood. Will the late-night crowds still persist? Also: will they still use a salamander to reheat the par-cooked patties? And finally: will Corner Bistro usurp the title of "Best Burger in LIC" from M. Wells? Only time will tell.
