At first, when Mark Iacono, the owner of popular Brooklyn pizzeria Lucali, was stabbed in broad daylight by Benny Geritano, a man with mob associations, the police thought the assailant was trying to shake down the pizza man for a piece of the business. But the motive behind Friday afternoon's knife fight—at this point it's clear that both men had knives and caused some damage—is perhaps a little more simple. Sources tell the Post they were caught up in a love triangle. According to the piece, the fight was over Annette Angeloni, the owner of a Marielena Card & Gift Shop on Court Street who left her husband, starting seeing Geritano, and was somehow involved with Iacono. Perhaps it's time to start casting the TV movie.
A friend of Iacono swears the married pizzaolo would never fool around, and Geritano himself told police the fight was over a debt, so perhaps the story is the work of some romantic rumormongerers in Carroll Gardens. Both men have been charged with attempted murder, assault and weapons possession.
