Folks at the Michael White Empire—which now stands at Marea, Osteria Morini, and the new Ai Fiori—reveal that the chef's first overseas operation, a large restaurant on the harbor of Hong Kong, is on schedule to open this May. New York jetsetters, take note. Called Al Molo (on the wharf), the restaurant faces the water, is attached to the city's largest mall, and will serve a pan-Italian menu with a large selection of seafood. White has been spending a great deal of time in Asia over the last year—in Hong Kong and also Singapore, Indonesia—eating in the local restaurants and also learning techniques from the area chefs.
White and his financial partner Ahmass Fakahany are also planning an exploratory trip of sorts to London in the next couple of months to gauge the dining scene over there, though no plans for European expansion are on the books.
