When Eater operatives happened upon the newly opened Five Guys Burgers & Fries at the LaGuardia Airport on Friday afternoon, it was just three days old. But the trouble had already begun. At the primo lunch hour, the lines formed both for the cashier and pick up counter while the food court rivals sat empty. It was no Midtown crazypants rush, but the crowd was significant.
Of course the team at generic Famous Famiglia pizza (ubiquitous at airports and rest stops) weren't taking it sitting down. They yelled out at customers to choose them, cheered whenever anyone bought a slice, and heckled the Five Guys staff. A worker told Eater business had dropped significantly since Five Guys' debut.
