Partners at Greenpoint's The Mark Bar appeared before Williamsburg's Community Board 1 last month to propose a restaurant for the current McCarren Park Field House:
With a tentative name — Park Picnic — the proposed restaurant would serve burgers, fries and milk shakes as well as beer and wine, pending a liquor license. According to Levitt, their proposal would restore the facility to include expanding bathroom stalls, adding a walkable chess set, a new bocce court, and even a children’s play area.Since the project would cost over $1 million, the owners are starting out slow by presenting a simple outline to the community. The board suggested they start by opening a concessions cart by the field house "to determine interest." Meanwhile, another Greenpointer is trying to put a bubble over the park's tennis courts to make them accessible throughout the year.
