Last month, a tipster sent the above listing to the inbox inquiring, "Isn't this BarBao?" The answer is, why yes, indeed it is Michael Huynh's BarBao and it is indeed for sale. Since the listing went up, a number of insiders at the restaurant have written in to say that Huynh has not been to the space in months and that Sean Scotese, a key figure in the Bao empire, and Jennifer Hill, the chef de cuisine at BarBao, have resigned. Another tells us today that the director of operations jumped ship on Jan. 1 and that the owners of Thai eatery Sookk (103rd and Broadway) are negotiating for the lease.
So, is the baobubble bursting? Not so says Michael Huynh. He reports that his partners from OBao are trying to close a deal on the space within the next few days. So currently it's all up in the air? Will it go Thai or go back to the BaoMan?
