Summer Associate #0576 began his season of slaving away and eating lavish meals last week. The big absurd dinners will come into play throughout the season, but the most consistent perk for a summer associate is the posh business lunch. Each associate goes on at least two schmancy lunches a week which span from around one to three hours a piece. Here's week one:
Date: Tuesday, May 27
Restaurant: Gramercy Tavern
Time: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Ordered: Coriander and grapefruit kampachi, roasted sirloin with short rib ravioli, kiwi meringue tart
Topics Discussed: Reality TV, Bear Stearns implosion, en-dashes vs. em-dashes in legal scholarship
Sights: A single fleet week sailor, dining alone with glass of white.
Conclusion: The platonic form of a summer associate lunch
Date: Wednesday, May 28th
Restaurant: Patroon
Time: 12:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Ordered: Truffled eggs, steak sandwich
Topics Discussed: Marriage, law school exam taking techniques, the private securities litigation reform act
Sights: I-Bankers eating in private room upstairs, notes of hierachy
Conclusion: A little stuffy, food quality skewed country club, but good service
Date: Thursday, May 29th
Restaurant: Sparks Steakhouse
Time: 12:00 p.m. - 2 p.m.
Ordered: Shrimp cocktail, massive sirloin
Topics Discussed: Sentencing of Nick Hogan and possible defenses, "business drunk" and the art of entertaining finance clients, how to talk to your secretary
Sights: an empty restaurant
Conclusion: Massively overrated, not worth the money I didn't spend on it.
