Mega Plywood Report Gallery: Building on Bond, Sweet Melissa, Batch, Ache de Cuba, and More!

1) Boerum Hill: This tip on new Brooklyn spot Building on Bond: "This place is around the corner from me on the corner of Bond and Pacific in Boerum Hill. Turns out the guys behind this are from Hecho Inc., the restaurant builders and designers. Some of their other projects include Hill Country, Stanton Social, Boqueria, The Tasting Room, August, Spitzer's Corner, Bobo and European union...The name of the place is called 'Building on Bond.' During the day, the front of the place is going to be cafe. For dinner, they're gonna open up the back part for dinner. The cafe is going to open in April. Unclear when the restaurant is opening. They're still trying to get their license from the community liquor board." [PLYWOOD]

2) Cobble Hill: A Brooklyn Life has the news on Cobble Hill pastry shop, Sweet Melissa: "Sweet Melissa is expanding into the space next door and, according to the person at the counter, is planning to open in April. The new space will serve beer and wine (always a good thing). Looking forward to warmer weather, the garden will be expanded to include both building's backyards." [PLYWOOD]

3) West Village: And yet another update on Pichet Ong's almost opened Batch. From WVill corespondent: "Walked by Pichet Ong's new dessert spot, Batch, this afternoon. Caught Ong walking out and asked if I could take a picture inside. 'Saturday,' Ong said, 'Come by Saturday and take as many pictures as you want.' So—UrbanDaddy's report of Batch's Saturday opening this weekend seem to be true." [POST PLYWOOD]

The Old Smoochies Space, Artichoke, SHI, Pinkberry and more, ahead.>>

4) Greenwich Village: From the inbox, a tip on that NYU area strip of 8th between University and Broadway: "Something is about to open on 8th street btwn broadway and university, in the old smoochies/gyro space. Across from au bon pain. Pink tiles walls, and all the restaurant supplies were delivered yesterday. The plywood was taken down today but still no sign." [POST PLYWOOD]

6) East Village: A tipster has a few details on a place going in on East 14th St.: "On 14th St between 1st and 2nd, next to Curley's Vegetarian, is what seems to be a pizza joint called Artichoke opening up. Walked by at around 4 on Sat the 15th and saw workers messing with the security gate. 'Draught Beer' and 'Pizza' in big Letterman letters on the front windows, as well as a big cardboard sign for "Help Wanted." Looks like a classic 20's-30's NYC deli/food shop type decor (It reminded me of Genco Abbandando's matket where young Vito works in The Godfather Part II, oddly enough) but I could be way off here; I didn't get to see much of the interior." [PLYWOOD]

7) Long Island City: liQcity has the first word on new Long Island City restaurant SHI: "Spearheaded by a pair of brothers who have been providing the United Nations and its community with quality Chinese food for the past 18 years, SHI will mix old-world, Asian tradition with modern stylings, both in food and décor. It will occupy the 4,100-square-foot space in the ground floor of the East Coast 6 building and include a bar, lounge, sushi bar, outdoor seating and VIP area, punctuated by an upscale design and spectacular views of Manhattan." [PLYWOOD]

8) Park Slope: Brownstoner reports on a multi-purpose space being built in South slope: "A couple of longtime South Slopers are planning to build a Cuban restaurant, dance studio and recording space in their 7th Avenue building. Felix de Jesus, a pro dance instructor, and his wife, Olga Gomez—who has lived at 460 7th Avenue for the past 36 years—intend to construct an entertainment center called Ache de Cuba in the first floor and basement of their house." [PLYWOOD]

9) East Williamsburg: A tipster grabs a shot of a newly plywooded space on Grand St near Lorimer: "Here's a photo of a new 24 hour spot on Grand called Manna Cafe. With that clam shop opening just down the block, it seems like things are looking up for this once desolate strip." [PLYWOOD] UPDATE: We hear the owners are the same people that own Willburg Cafe up the block.

10) Upper West Side: And, of course, there's a Pinkberry update from an UWS correspondent: "This new spot is 'swirling' to Upper West Siders very slowly--a Pinkberry at this location was first reported by a Yelper in Oct. 2007. Sign's still in the window now but looks like nothing has been done to the space. Art gallery signage still up, display cases still inside." [PLYWOOD]
