1) Saju: Drew Neiporent's Mai House is going to have some competition from another "haute" Vietnamese restaurant. Saju, located inside the Hotel Mela in midtown, comes to us (according to the press release) from chef Thao Nguyen and restaurateur Philippe Bernard (a co-owner of nearby eatery Osteria al Doge). Or maybe the chef of the restaurant is Hung Nguyen, as NY Mag reports. The person answering phones at Saju didn't have any idea who the chef was either, as "they don't wear nametags back there." 2) Five Guys Burgers and Fries: Washington, DC-based fast-food spot Five Guys is expanding its empire here in New York. This is the chain's second outpost in the city; the first was in Queens. The menu here is focused on three things: burgers (of course), hot dogs and fries. Brooklyn Heights Blog is already in love, writing: "Book an appointment with your cardiologist now, double up on the Crestor and check out their delicious offerings...the belly bomber cheeseburger I had was outstanding compared to a normal diner burger." 138 Montague St between Clinton and Henry Sts, Brooklyn Heights; (718) 797-9380 [Brooklyn Heights Blog]
3) Charlie's Place: Finally, residents of central Harlem have their own takeout sushi place. The good news is that Charlie's Place serves a totally solid spicy salmon roll, the bad news is they close at the ridiculously early hour of 8pm. Madison Ave between 125th and 126th Sts; (212) 410-0277 [HarlemFur]
4) Thai Select: Hell's Kitchen needs another Thai restaurant like midtown needs another Starbucks or the Lower East Side needs another bar—that is to say, not at all. However, here is Thai Select. The folks behind the place also own Thai eateries Q2 Thai, Thai Thai-Yo, and Aceluck. 472 Ninth Ave between 36th and 37th Sts; (212) 695-9920 [Strongbuzz]
5) The Green Room: South Street Seaport's Spiegeltent is now offering a full dinner menu as well as beer from Heartland Brewery. The Green Room's seafood-heavy menu includes lobster rolls, mussels and fish and chips. South Street Seaport, 19 Fulton St at South St; (212) 730-016 [Cutlets]
