WEST VILLAGE—The legendary, and legendarily unstable, Chumley's will reopen by October, according to owner Steve Shlopak who said, "We thought the repairs were going to take two months, but it looks like they are going to take six...The scope of the work is really much bigger than we thought it would be." Chumley's lastest, and most significant, flirtation with collapse occurred back in April, after which time it became clear the Chumley building's chimney would have to be dismantled brick-by-brick before the bar could reopen.
