It’s 4/20, aka the fake holiday for stoners everywhere, and restaurants are taking the opportunity to sling out the crazy food mash-ups that perhaps would be somewhat déclassé any other day of the year. They are also arguably still kind of silly today.
Montreal-inspired smoked meats shop Mile End is cooking up a burger with latke on top and an “inside out poutine,” where grilled cheese has been formed into a cone and stuffed with french fries. It’s topped with the gravy and looks ridiculous.
Our second 4/20 special tomorrow is this "Inside Out Poutine". French fries stuffed in a grilled cheese curd cone and topped with Poutine gravy.

Historic dim sum parlor Nom Wah’s more casual outpost Nom Wah Nolita is topping a fried pork chop sandwich with an other-worldy green colored vegetable dumpling on top, a dish that presumably will not make any ancestors roll over in their graves. Baohaus in the East Village is bringing back its Cheeto fried chicken bao today, and for those who enjoy toking up even on non-holidays, it will be available until the end of the month.
For those who prefer quantity to crazy, chicken nugget restaurant The Nugget Spot is hosting an eating contest at 7 p.m. tonight, with registration ending at 6:30 p.m. It costs $20 to enter. Specials like Brussels sprouts with nacho queso and a PBJ cookie will also be available. The restaurant also has stoner food on its regular menu, like a nugget with a Cap’n Crunch cereal crust.
But a lucky crew will be dining today with a little more style. Queens chef Leighton Knowles is hosting a three-course cannabis tasting in Ridgewood tonight. Each dish has some cannibidoil infused in it, “a low psychoactive component of cannabis,” according to Qns.com. It is already sold out.
