Soho health food favorite Spring Street Natural is now up and running in its new home at 96 Kenmare Street — although now it's called Spring Natural. For three decades, the restaurant lived in the space on the corner of Spring Street and Lafayette. Owner Rus Shoenholt — who founded Spring Street Natural in 1973 at 146 Spring — was forced to look for a new location after his landlord on the corner increased the rent. The old restaurant closed on January 1, and the new one made its debut last week.
Spring Natural's new Kenmare location is slightly bigger than the old space. It's broken into two levels each with a full bar. Along with the new location, Spring Natural revamped its menu to add more health-conscious cuisine. The dinner menu now features a "Wok Station" serving sweet plantain and avocado rice, Mongolian beef and broccoli, and duck ropa vieja. Fans of the 43-year-old- Soho restaurant will still find Spring Street's taco salad, challah French toast, and almond-veggie burger on Kenmare in addition to the larger menu. Spring Natural is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
