It's been months since Pete Zaaz, Peter Entner's oddball pizzeria in Crown Heights, promised it would stage a comeback. It had closed, rather messily, in August, in the wake of a falling out between Entner and his business partners. Entner didn't like the way they were running things, so he distanced himself from the business, only to have it go down the tubes. But after it closed, he told Eater he bought it out with a friend, with plans to get it back up and running.
This weekend, it finally soft opened again, now under the name Zaaz Pizza. Entner's role in the place hasn't quite been nailed down yet. He tells Eater that he consulted on the restaurant, and helped open it, but is still negotiating what his role will be going forward. Meanwhile, Entner is plenty busy with Boomwich, his out-there sandwich shop on Atlantic Avenue, which is about to launch dinner.
For now, just know that it's back serving baked potato pizzas and cold fried chicken pizzas, as well as a few more standard pies and toppings than it used to.
