There's been a lot of bagel jockeying for Ess-A-Bagel's share of the 1st Avenue market. First, word came that the bagel icon was being replaced by a bank of America and a mysterious "Tower Bagels." And at the same time, it looked like mini-chain Tal Bagels was moving in just a few store fronts up the street, signage went up at 365 1st Avenue, next door to where Ess-A-Bagel may or may not be staging a comeback. Then, signage for Tal appeared in the old Ess-A-Bagel space and the banner at 365 came down. Confused yet? Here's what's actually going down, courtesy of Town & Village:
-
Tal Bagels, not Tower Bagels, is opening in part of the old Ess-A-Bagel, alongside a Bank of America. From a correction to the original news story in Town & Village, it sounds like this was the case all along.
-
Tal's team is also taking over 365 1st Avenue, but plans to turn it into an appetizing shop: think smoked fish, herring, and the like.
-
Ess-A-Bagel is still rumored to be taking over the 363 1st Avenue space, putting it right between the two Tal Bagels projects, but nothing is definite here.
So keep an eye out for any and all bagel-related activities on 1st.
