Daniel Boulud is planning to open a spinoff of his hit bakery/cafe Épicerie Boulud inside The Plaza Food Hall later this year. Details are still being finalized, but a rep for the Food Hall confirms that Épicerie Boulud will be joining the rest of the vendors in the basement of The Plaza. Right now, The Plaza Food Hall is home to stalls from Billy's Bakery, FP Patisserie, Tartinery, No. 7 Sub, and Luke's Lobster, to name a few. The space also has a handful of Todd English- affiliated dining counters. The Plaza Food Hall's website notes: "Todd English remains our 'anchor' alongside a thoughtfully curated selection of New York favorites and relative newcomers."
Rumor has it that the new D-Biggity project will take over the space that formerly housed Demel. If this seems like a small space for a second outpost of his bakery/cafe, remember that Boulud has a large East Village commissary kitchen where his staff makes all the breads, pastries, sausages, and other fresh products that are served in his restaurants. Boulud has also hinted at plans to expand Épicerie Boulud to the Financial District.
More details on the new outpost of Épicerie Boulud as they become available.
