Last night Andrew Carmellini added his name to the growing list of restaurateurs who opened hotel restaurants this year. Little Park, his veggie and farmers market focused restaurant, got rolled into the revamp of the Thompson Hotel, The Smyth. Design firm Gachot Studios settled on a palate of beiges for the restaurant with some pops of color courtesy of the quirky modern art hanging on the walls. There are large banquettes, glowing lantern-style lights, and a sort of draped ceiling that looks like a safari tent.
The space has a bonus: Carms also opened Evening Bar, a dark, upscale lair style bar in the hotel, where PDT vet Anne Robinson is shaking house cocktails that include a porcini and Scotch nog and a dessert-ish sounding Rising Manhattan with apple brandy, Sherry, and chocolate mole bitters.
