Early this afternoon, an industry insider revealed that Savoy, Peter Hoffman's 20 year-old Soho restaurant and one of the first restaurants in New York to obsess over the Greenmarket, is closing this summer and reopening as a new concept that's closer in line with his laid back East Village spot Back Forty. And now chef Hoffman confirms. On June 18 the restaurant, which recently earned two stars from the Times, will close. He writes in a statement, "To everything there is a season, especially restaurants, and I Iook forward to introducing customers to the next one that will occupy this space. I’m not giving up my corner on Prince and Crosby; I’m just giving us a new canvas upon which to work."
He will open a more casual restaurant in the space soon after its shutter.
